Welwyn Parish Council declares a climate emergency

On Monday 27 January 2020 Welwyn Parish Council declared a climate and ecological emergency motion.

As the lowest tier of local government Welwyn Parish Council is limited in its resources and powers to address this emergency; however Welwyn Parish Council it is accountable to its electorate and will actively aim to reduce the carbon footprint of the parish and create the conditions needed for a sustainable low-carbon future by working with its partners (both at national and local level), contractors, local groups and organisations, local businesses, schools and residents and will commit its policies and resources to address this emergency.

As well as pledging to make the Welwyn Parish carbon-neutral by 2030 (considering both production and consumption emissions), we will work in partnership to create a “Climate Emergency Action Plan” (CEAP) (including carbon and energy audits of all council managed facilities). The Plan will aim to give practical actions that save energy.
