Council Offices Redevelopment Project
The purpose of this consultation is to seek residents views regarding Council Community Centre Project.
We hope you were able to come along to one of our recent Public Consultation events at the Civic Centre to find out more about the Council Community Centre Project. It was great to see so many residents and discuss the Council’s plans for the future of the offices and community rooms.
If you were unable to come along this time, scroll down for future public consultation dates happening in April and May.
Background:
If you have ever visited or hired the current Parish Council offices you will know that the building is in a desperate state, many years past it’s expected life span it is inefficient and no longer fit for purpose. Through this redevelopment project we hope to create a modern working space from which the council will operate as well as multi-use community facilities available for private hire.
Funding the project:
With the support of parish residents, funding for this project will largely come from a Public Works Loan of £300,000 payable over 20 years as well as the development and sale of a single dwelling on the closed public toilets land located on Lockleys Drive.
Income generated from the hire of the community facilities would cover a portion of the annual loan repayment of £25,270, with the remainder coming from an increase to the council tax precept of approximately, 3.6% (equivalent to £3.60 per year, per Band D property).
What are the next steps:
At the end of the public consultation period, 30th May 2025, and with public support for the redevelopment project and funding, the Council will formally resolve to apply to the Secretary of State for Housing and Local Government for a Public Works Loan for £300,000 over the borrowing term of 20 years.
By the 1st of April, and before the increase in application fees, the Council will submit a planning application to Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council for approval.
It is important that we invite residents to comment on the proposed increase to the council tax precept and ask that you answer the two key questions scroll down click “HAVE YOUR SAY!” to view and return your view to the Parish Council Offices or email a scanned copy to clerk@welwyn-pc.gov.uk.
PLEASE NOTE: When you vote, it is one vote per elector NOT per household.
