Welwyn Parish are fortunate to have two great play areas (they’re more than just play grounds!) which were initially provided with the support of parents in the local community and benefited greatly from contributions by local firms and organisations. Both are based at Ottway Walk (AL6 9AS), next to the playing fields. The equipment there has been chosen by families for families.
Whitehill Play Area
The first area is aimed primarily at younger children and parents from toddler upwards. It includes an “obstacle course” play house and even a swing suitable for a parent and child to use together. The area is grassed but with “soft surface” below some of the apparatus; there are also seats and a picnic table! It’s a wonderful, safe area for very young children and parents to enjoy.
Don’t forget, if you’re holding a Children’s birthday party at the Whitehill Centre next door it can be a perfect excuse to go out and let them burn off some energy if the weather is good!
Ottway Walk Play Area
This area is aimed at older children and includes both climbing equipment, a short zip-wire and even a large roundabout which includes a “chariot” seat, suitable for those with physical disabilities. Separately there is also a kick wall for budding footballers to practice their skills on grass.
Basketball net
There is also a single basketball net on a hard gravel surface.
Welwyn Parish Council manage the play areas and undertake regular weekly checks of the equipment and commission an annual full inspection by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
